The dribbling relay is an easy relay style warm-up for players to practice their dribbling and turning skills.
Set Up
Set up relay lines with cones and divide players into even teams. This warm-up works best when there are 3-6 players in each relay line.
How It Works
To get players warmed up, begin by having players dribble to the cone on the other side and back at a lighter pace. Once players are warm, have the teams compete in relay races. Coaches can have players perform different turns as part of the relay such as an inside of the foot turn, outside of the foot turn, or Cryuff turn. They can also specify that players use their strong foot only, weak foot only, both feet, etc. Once a player finishes their leg of the relay, have them sit down to keep track of who has gone. The first team with all of their players sitting down wins. Players can get really competitive with this. Perform multiple relays and keep track of how many relays each team has won.
Coaching Points
Encourage everyone to try their best. If one team is dominating, shuffle the teams to keep things close. This warm-up can be used in conjunction with the dynamic relay warm-up.
