Skill practice in lines is an easy drill for players to practice passing, heading, and volleying in small groups.
Set Up
Have players form lines facing each other. Each line needs a soccer ball.
How it works: The first player in line passes/tosses the soccer ball to the player directly across from them who returns it to the second player in the line opposite them with a pass/header/volley. Players switch lines after every repetition.
Coaching Points
This drill can be used to work on a variety of ball control skills including chest trap and volley return, thigh trap and volley return, two touch passing, one touch passing, etc. Keep lines short by creating multiple groups. This ensures that all players get lots of repetitions. Emphasize the fundamentals for passing, heading, and volleying.
